Middlesbrough have confirmed they are close to finalising a deal for French midfielder Malaury Martin.
The 22-year-old spent last season with Blackpool, but he failed to make a single appearance after picking up a serious injury in pre-season.
Now he is looking to kick-start his English career with Boro and has impressed during training.
"We're getting pretty close. We're looking at bringing him in on a one-year deal," said Boro boss Tony Mowbray.
"He's got talent, he's a young player who's trying to get his career back up and running after a bad injury.
"He can do a bit of everything, he could be a useful addition to our midfield.
"He can pass, tackle, defend and he has a great shot on him, so we'll try and utilise his talents as we move on depending on whether we can finalise the deal."
