Teenager signs three-year Boro contract

Middlesbrough have started building for next season after completing the signing of Livingston youngster Andy Halliday for an undisclosed fee. The 18-year-old midfielder, who has 14 goals in 23 league starts this term, has signed a three-year contract with the Championship outfit. Boro agreed terms with Livingston last week and Halliday is excited to be joining Gordon Strachan's side when the transfer window reopens in July. The teenager has been blown away by the club's impressive training facilities and feels having fellow Scots Barry Robson and Lee Miller around will only help him settle in the North East.

Excited

"I'm really excited about joining Middlesbrough and delighted that the contract is now all sorted," he told the club's official website. "This is a club that has produced so many good youngsters over the years and I just hope I can do well for them. It helps that there is already a big Scottish contingent at the club and I know I am going to feel at home straight away. "I came here for a training week earlier in the season so I was able to see the set-up first hand. It also gave me the chance to meet the players, so I have a bit of a head start in that respect. "The training ground is just fantastic. It's just different class. I came down and stayed at the Rockliffe Hall hotel, where the facilities and food are out of this world. "I made up my mind then that I would like to come here."
First choice
Halliday insists Boro were always his first choice club having been the target of leading clubs north and south of the border. He enjoying training spells with Charlton and Italian club Parma, but felt a completely different style of football might be a step too far too soon. "The Italian connection came about because Livingston used to be an Italian-owned club," he continued. "It was an amazing experience to go to Italy and experience a very different type of football. "But my first choice was always to come to Middlesbrough. Everyone is very friendly and has made me feel so welcome."
