Defender boosted by loan spell at Boro

Stephen McManus is waiting for talks regarding his long-term future at Celtic following the end of his loan spell at Middlesbrough. The defender spent the second half of the campaign at Boro and Gordon Strachan is keen to bring McManus back to The Riverside next season. McManus admits his morale has been boosted by his stint with the Championship club and is open to returning to Teesside in the summer. "I have no idea what happens," McManus told the club's official website. "I have never been on loan before so I don't know what the scenario is. "What I do know is that I've really enjoyed my time down here - it's really opened my eyes to life outside Glasgow. "It's been first class. Whether I go back to Celtic, somewhere else or I stay here, I'll be playing with a spring in my step and it's because of this club."

Contract talks

Meanwhile, Boro boss Strachan expects Jeremie Aliadiere to leave the club, but is hoping to agree a new deal with Emanuel Pogatetz. "We would like Jeremie to stay, but he has decided his future is elsewhere," Strachan confirmed. "We have spoken to everyone whose contract is up and we would like them to talk to us. "We will talk to Pogi and I want him to stay. He is a top man and we've missed him. "He has not played many games, but if you look at his record when he plays it is very good. Just having his presence there is first class."
