Dimi Konstantopoulos must return to Coventry after the weather put paid to a loan extension at Swansea.

Adverse deadline day weather stops keeper extending Swans stay

Goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos must return to Coventry from Swansea after the adverse weather conditions on transfer deadline day put the boot into his loan extension. The 30-year-old Greek had agreed to extend his current one-month loan deal until the end of the season at 4.20pm on transfer deadline day. But the weather on Monday meant the keeper - who had previously gone back to the Midlands to think over the offer - found himself stuck in traffic and so arrived at Coventry's Ricoh Arena after the 5pm deadline to sign the forms. Both clubs' chairmen then wrote to the Football League to ask for special dispensation to allow the loan to go through, but the authority would not agree. This brings to an end his second spell at Swansea this season, with the Swans now having to look for another keeper when the loan window re-opens next week.

Not allow

The club's official website said: "Despite both clubs starting the loan process before the deadline, the Football League would not allow the loan deal to go through. "Both club chairmen wrote to the Football League to ask for special dispensation due to the adverse weather conditions - as was granted by the Premier League to the likes of Arsenal - but the club was left bitterly disappointed that the Football League upheld its original decision. "Due to the loan regulations, Dimi will also not be allowed to rejoin once the loan window opens again next week, leaving Swans boss Roberto Martinez to look elsewhere for cover for Dorus de Vries."
