Egyptian striker puts hard work in to get fit

Egyptian striker Mido insists he will be back to his best for Middlesbrough next season after shedding two stone. The striker had an injury-plagued first full season with Boro last term after his £6million switch from Spurs last August. He netted just two goals for the Teessiders - which came when he scored on his debut against Fulham and also his home debut against Newcastle. But he then failed to find the net for the rest of the season as injuries took their toll.

Criticised

And he even ended up being criticised by some Boro fans after looking out of shape towards the end of the season. But the Egyptian striker has replied by putting in the work this summer to get his fitness back. He has spent a month with a fitness expert in Cairo, taking part in running sessions in the morning and then weight and strength training in the afternoon heat. He cancelled his summer holidays for these double fitness sessions and the hard work has paid off as he has shed two stone to get down to 14 stone. Mido is now raring to go, although he is having to train with the reserves on Teesside at present after a visa problem left him unable to travel to the club's Portugal training camp.
Fitness
Mido told the Daily Mirror: "I have made sure I've got back to a good level of fitness. "The heat was 40c but every day we worked hard on conditioning. "Sometimes I would have no pain and start training again, only for it to come back. I have done everything possible to be fit. "Now I want to get better luck and score some goals."
