Egyptian striker may yet make African Cup of Nations

Middlesbrough's Mido has not yet given up hope of playing some part in the African Cup of Nations. The striker was left out of Egypt's provisional squad for the tournament after his recent groin injury, but the door is still open for him should the team reach the latter stages of the tournament. Mido has not featured for Middlesbrough since October, and manager Gareth Southgate admits that even if his player was able to make the trip to Ghana, he would be well short of match fitness.

Unlikely

"It is unlikely that Mido is going to play again before the middle of January, so he will not really have played any games, so they will have that in mind," Southgate told Boro's official website.
