Maccarone set for Parma

Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone has revealed he expects to join Parma.

Middlesbrough striker Massimo Maccarone has revealed he expects to join Parma before the close of the transfer window.

Parma have agreed a loan deal with Middlesbrough for the Italian international as they look to partner him with Alberto Gilardino in attack.

Maccarone has been linked with several clubs in his homeland, with Fiorentina and Lazio seeing moves for him fall through.

The £8.15 million club record signing from Empoli has failed to live up to expectations at The Riverside.

Maccarone is not in Steve McClaren's first team plans and the summer arrivals of Mark Viduka and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink have pushed him further down the pecking order.

However, the 24-year-old is remaining coy over the move to Parma waiting until the move is signed and sealed.

"Nothing is defined yet," Maccarone told skysports.com. "Something will be known on Tuesday afternoon."
