The midfielder, a virtual ever present last season, has been forced to play second fiddle to Boro boss Steve McClaren's new signings this term, but is confident his chance will arrive soon.
"Everyone wants to play on a Saturday, your work is geared to that during the week," the former Manchester United man told the club's website.
"You earn your Brownie points on a Saturday on the pitch, but more so than ever before it's a squad of players who benefit the team, not just the starting 11.
"It's just nice to be involved at a club like this; yes, I would like to play, and when my chance comes along it's up to me to play well enough to make sure whoever's place I take has to fight hard to get it back.
"I'm working as hard as I can to get back in and will continue to work hard if and when I get back in.
"But the team are doing well and winning, and that's the most important thing.
"Doriva has come in and done a fantastic job with George (Boateng) who is solid, Bolo (Zenden) has settled well and Mendieta is a class act.
"But maybe my versatility will help me get a place somewhere. The gaffer has told me to be ready and I am."
In other news, teenage striker Daniel Graham is winning admirers for his performances with Boro's Under-19 team.
Darlington have reportedly had a loan offer rebuffed, and it is believed that if he progresses as expected he could be challenging for a place in the first team in the near future.
