Former Manchester City youngster Javan Vidal insists that he needed to leave the club due to his desire for regular first-team football.
The 22-year-old made just one appearance for City, against West Brom in the Carling Cup last season, but impressed during loan spells with Grimsby, Aberdeen, Derby and Chesterfield.
The promising full-back is available on a free transfer, having left the Premier League big-spenders this summer, and he told
skysports.com that breaking into the side at Eastlands is getting tougher each year.
"It's a massive club and I've been there since I was nine or 10, but I've got to the stage where I need to be playing regular first-team football and it is hard to be promised that at a club like Manchester City," he admitted.
"I wouldn't say that anything is impossible and a bit of luck can go a long way, with injuries helping youngsters break through.
"Once that chance comes your way it is up to you to impress and keep your place in the side, but getting that opportunity in the first place is difficult.
"The level of football has been raised with all the financial backing and the quality of players they bring in every year, so it is hard, but it isn't impossible to break through there."
