City boss deals with midfielder after first-team football grumble

Mark Hughes has told Elano his 'door is always open' after the Manchester City schemer complained about his lack of first-team opportunities. Brazil international Elano told Sky Sports News of his 'sadness' at not playing earlier this week and said he was not happy to be out of the side. He has not started City's last two matches, having come on as a sub against FC Twente in the Uefa Cup and being left on the bench for the 2-1 home defeat by Tottenham Hotspur. However, he has started eight Premier League games this season and Hughes was disappointed with how Elano went about making his complaint.

Wrong option

"I had to remind Elano he actually has played quite often this year," said Hughes on Sky Sports News. "It was an internal matter and has been dealt with, so we draw a line over it and we move on. "The mistake Elano made is he went the wrong way about it. "I always say my door is open, you can knock on my door and we'll discuss it. He just chose the wrong option."
