U's bag City defender

Manchester City defender Matthew Mills has joined Colchester on a month's loan.

Manchester City defender Matthew Mills has joined Colchester on a month's loan.

The youngster joined City from Southampton in January 2006, but has failed to make much impact on the first-team picture at Eastlands.

As such, City boss Stuart Pearce feels the youngster will benefit from a spell at Championship promotion chasers Colchester.

Mills, who made his City debut against Wigan last October, will spend the next four weeks at Layer Road.

Pearce clearly believes his younger players will benefit from spells away from the club as Kasper Schmeichel, Marc Laird, Joe Hart, Kelvin Etuhu and Nathan D'Laryea are already out on loan.
