Howey links up with Oldham

Oldham are hoping Steve Howey will feature in their reserves on Wednesday.

Oldham Athletic are hoping Steve Howey will feature in their reserve clash on Wednesday against Bury.

It was confirmed last week Howey was to train with The Latics, and he is now at the club on a trial basis.

With the former Newcastle United defender playing in MLS last term, the club are awaiting international clearance before he can play in their reserves.

Howey, who has also played for Manchester City, Bolton, and Leicester in his career, is more than willing to get his head down in a bid to win a deal.

"I'm prepared to play in the reserves and it's up to [Brian] Talbot to pick me," said Howey.

Meanwhile, the club have extended Manchester City winger Lee Croft's loan for a third and final month.
