Premier League: Newcastle manager Alan Pardew in confident mood

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is confident he has the squad in place to achieve his targets this season, even if the club are not quite finished in the transfer market.

Newcastle have enjoyed a successful summer off the pitch with the club signing nine players, although Nottingham Forest pair Karl Darlow and Jamaal Lascelles have been loaned back to the Championship club.

Another striker remains in Newcastle's sights, with Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and Loic Remy, who spent last season on loan at St James' Park, very much at the top of their list, and Pardew is happy with how things have gone.

“We came up short at times last season. But everyone has worked hard to ensure we have a team that will represent this great club in a fitting manner over the coming months," said Pardew.

"And I’m relishing the prospect of what lies ahead. The pre-season friendlies have been encouraging, and while we have not played our best just yet, that is to be expected with plenty of new faces in the squad.

“We’re heading into the new season determined to produce better performances on home soil.

“And the signings we have made this summer give us every chance to achieve that goal.

“I’m sure they will give our team more potency in the next few months.”

Newcastle completed their pre-season campaign with a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.
