Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez has backed his team-mates to fight their way through a defensive crisis.
The Magpies went into last weekend's 2-2 draw at Reading without skipper Fabricio Coloccini after he suffered a setback in his recovery from a hamstring problem, and left with Steven Taylor nursing a calf injury with Danny Simpson and Ryan Taylor, as well as keeper Tim Krul, already sidelined.
Coloccini and Taylor will miss Thursday night's Europa League clash with Bordeaux and are also likely to sit out Manchester United's visit to Tyneside on Sunday as manager Alan Pardew finds his squad stretched to its limits.
However, Gutierrez told the Journal: "We are getting a lot of players with injuries and it is a big, big problem for us, what with all the matches we have to play.
"When you don't have all the players available, it's hard for the manager to prepare the team and hard for the players because we don't have that big a squad.
"But we have to keep going and keep focussed on the jobs we have to do for the team."
