Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has warned his side they face one of their toughest tests of the season when they travel to Everton on Monday.

The Toffees, who beat the Magpies 3-1 on the final day of last season, go into the fixture with six points from their three matches so far this term.

Manchester United have already lost at Goodison Park this term and Pardew is aware of the task facing Newcastle once again.

Pardew said: "It's obvious from the start of the season that Everton have picked up where they left off last year.

"They beat us comfortably at the back end of last year. It's a tough game for us, and I think it's going to be for everybody at Goodison, as Manchester United found out.

"We have got a lot to do there."

Everton have brought in the likes of Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith over the summer, in addition to securing the permanent return of Steven Pienaar, but Pardew will be targeting victory on Merseyside.

He added: "They have got considerable assets in terms of defending and attacking.

"They have got some nice options and it makes it very difficult to unravel that and get yourselves a victory. But that's what we will attempt to do."
