Llambias excited by the progress the Magpies have made

Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias has hailed the impact of manager Alan Pardew after the club's superb start to the Premier League season. The Magpies are currently in seventh spot in the division and are well on course for a top 10 finish, which owner Mike Ashley and Llambias set at the start of the campaign. United went 11 games without a loss and held the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal. And writing in his programme notes, Llambias said: "The way we started the current campaign surprised a lot of people in football, but the progress made so far this season is down to a lot of hard work from everyone at the football club. "To be in and around the top six for the majority of the season so far speaks volumes about the job Alan Pardew and his staff are doing and we are delighted to see Newcastle United competing at the highest level once more. "We have made it clear that our target is a top 10 finish this season, and after the start we have had and the quality we brought in over the summer, we are very hopeful of achieving that aim."
