Newcastle manager vows to keep forward

Newcastle manager Chris Hughton has insisted that Slovenian starlet Haris Vuckic is going nowhere. The 17-year-old forward admitted last week that he was flattered to be linked with a move to Manchester United, while Chelsea are also understood to be interested. However, Vuckic remains under contract at St James' Park until 2011 and Hughton will fight to keep hold of him. "To the contrary of what is being read or said at the moment, I can say that Haris is not going anywhere," Hughton told the Chronicle. "Irrespective of anything that has been in the media, I can say now that the reason we have him under the contract he has is for the right reasons."

Future

Vuckic's progress this season has been hampered by injuries but he has still shown glimpses of the talent that has brought him so many admirers. Hughton regards Vuckic as a vital component of his plans for next season and believes the youngster is also happy with the Magpies. "He's rated very highly here and he is a big part of the future," explained the manager. "You get used to speculation when talking about good players, but he's a Newcastle player and will be for a long time. "We're aware of everything that is going on. "But he is a player who likes it at the club and is well thought of here. "The fact is he's a good young player who has been injured and he is really enjoying coming back and playing for us again."
