Czech's mate Cacapa hailed

David Rozehnal was full of praise for his beleaguered central defensive partner Claudio Cacapa following Saturday's win.

Rozehnal convinced Toon are on the up following clean sheet

David Rozehnal is confident Newcastle are heading in the right direction following Saturday's victory and clean sheet at Fulham. Newcastle's defence this season has been the subject of frequent criticism for a series of less than convincing displays. It was a different story at Fulham though, with Rozehnal and his beleaguered central defensive partner Claudio Cacapa both excelling. And Czech Republic international Rozehnal believes brighter times lie in wait for Sam Allardyce and his side. "To get the three points is the most important thing, but in many ways, the 1-0 score is just great for the team," he told The Journal. "It's been a long time since we kept a clean sheet, so that is something we are very pleased with. The longer it goes on, the more people talk about it and the more you think about it. "It might sound strange as a defender to say it, but if we won 5-4 every game, I'd be happy because the victory is the most important thing in any football game. "But, for our heads and confidence, it is better that we keep a clean sheet. We haven't done that enough this season and we have created pressure for ourselves."

Cacapa praise

Rozehnal reserved special praise for Cacapa, adding: "First of all, Claudio is a great player. What happened to him is a big pity. He made some mistakes, but football is like that. "Sometimes you can look like the worst footballer in the world, you make mistakes and people think you are terrible. "But he is a great player and a strong player. We saw against Fulham, he did a great job. I felt really good playing close to him. He has a lot of experience, there is big pressure on us and we need this type of big player on the pitch."
