Killie look to Brittain

Newcastle United winger Martin Brittain is training with Kilmarnock as he continues his search for a new club.

Brittain is likely to leave The Magpies before the transfer deadline and has already trained with Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion in pre-season.

He has now headed north of the border in the hope of clinching a contract with SPL outfit Kilmarnock.

The 21-year-old has made eight appearances for Newcastle, starting just once, but is aiming to find a club where he can play regularly.

Killie boss Jim Jefferies is happy to hand Brittain the chance to prove his worth and hopes the young wide man lives up to his billing.

"Martin's CV is very impressive," Jefferies told the Daily Record. "You don't play in the Newcastle first team if you don't have something about you.

"The opportunity to stay was there for him, but he turns 22 in December and he wants first-team football.

"Newcastle are a very big club and the chances of playing when you have the likes of (Damien) Duff in front of you are limited.

"He's certainly worth a look and we'll do that over the next few days before having a chat on Friday to determine whether or not it's going to go any further."
