Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder has ruled out making an £8 million bid for PSV Eindhoven striker Jefferson Farfan.Reports over the weekend suggested the Magpies boss was preparing to swoop for the Peruvian international after his impressive performance in the friendly between the two sides on Saturday.
Roeder is still searching for a striker ahead of the new Premiership campaign, with Alan Shearer having retired and Michael Owen ruled out for the foreseeable future.
The former West Ham chief currently only has Shola Ameobi and Albert Luque as viable options up-front next season.
Farfan, who was on the scoresheet in the friendly, is the latest in a long list of names to be linked with a move to St James' Park, but Roeder says reports of a bid for the PSV star are completely fictitious.
"Farfan was one of several excellent players in the PSV side but we are looking at different positions from the one he plays in and there is no interest in him," Roeder told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle.
Meanwhile, Roeder has confirmed the club are aware of interest from Monaco for defender Jean-Alain Boumsong.
The Stade Louis II club are interested in taking the France international on loan and while admitting Monaco's interest, the Magpies chief ruled out an imminent departure for the 26-year-old.
Roeder added: "We are aware of Monaco's interest in Jean-Alain and that they want to take him on loan, but it is not as cut and dried as that."
