Souey happy with Parker

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is pleased with Scott Parker's progress from injury.

Newcastle boss Graeme Souness is pleased with Scott Parker's progress from injury, but the under-pressure Scot is not hopeful of Steve Taylor playing again this term.

Souness has had injuries to contend with throughout his tenure on Tyneside and he has a number of big names on the sidelines at present.

Michael Owen, Kieron Dyer, Shola Ameobi and Craig Moore were joined on the sidelines by Parker and Taylor recently.

Taylor damaged an existing shoulder complaint and Souness is not expecting him to play again this term, but Parker's powers of recovery from a knee operation have pleased the Tyneside chief.

"Scott Parker is doing really well in training," Souness said on Sky Sports News.

"Kieron is four weeks away from resuming full training, Craig Moore is a week away. Shola has aggravated an old injury, so he is travelling with us to see a specialist in London.

"Steven Taylor, if we see him again this term it will be a bonus."

Emre was one of the shining lights before damaging a hamstring, but the Turkish schemer could be back in contention next week.

"Emre is maybe a week away from training," added Souness. "It was touch and go with him, but we have to make sure he is 100 percent with the injury he has had."
