Emre: Best yet to come

Turkish star Emre insists Newcastle United fans are yet to see the best of him.

Turkish star Emre insists Newcastle United fans are yet to see the best of him.

The midfield schemer has shown glimpses of great form for The Magpies, although injuries have limited him to just four starts since his summer switch from Internazionale.

"The fans have not seen the best from me yet. I am still getting used to playing in The Premiership," he said.

"It is a special atmosphere in England. After playing in Turkey for Galatasaray, I thought nothing could compare.

"It is different here but the fans are so passionate, it inspires me."

Emre has already earned himself a place in Geordie folklore after firing home the winning free kick against arch-rivals Sunderland last month.

"I did not realise at first how much it meant to the fans to beat Sunderland, but I do now," he revealed.

"It was the killer goal which meant we won the game against Sunderland.

"And now, everywhere I go in Newcastle, the fans come up to me and tell me how happy they are.

"It's fantastic, the atmosphere in the town this week has been unbelievable.

"When I go out shopping, or to eat in a restaurant, they come up to me and want me to sign autographs."
