Tykes sign Magpies striker

Barnsley have signed Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra on loan.

Barnsley have signed Newcastle United striker Michael Chopra on loan.

The youngster has penned a one-month deal with The Tykes with a view to a season-long arrangement.

Chopra's arrival at Oakwell reunites him with Paul Hart, who took the 20-year-old to Nottingham Forest on loan last season.

Hart was sacked not long after Chopra arrived at The City Ground and is clearly keen to work with the England youth international for a longer period.

The promising forward has made just a handful of appearances for The Magpies and is keen to accrue experience during his stint in League One.

"I am looking forward to playing for Barnsley," said Chopra.

"The main thing for me at this stage of my career is getting first team football and that is what I am eagerly anticipating."
