Fabian Delph has been impressed with England team mate Harry Kane and says the Tottenham striker would get his vote for the PFA's player of the season

Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph has revealed he will vote for England colleague Harry Kane as player of the year.

Kane, 21, marked his international debut with a goal in Friday's 4-0 win over Lithuania at Wembley - and Delph believes the Tottenham forward has been the stand-out player in the Premier League this season.

Delph said of Kane: "He's a really hard worker and a great, great talent. He's still young and he's still got time to progress but he'll keep his feet on the ground and he'll start pushing on.

"I think he'd get my vote for player of the year. There are obviously a few contenders but I'd pick wisely and can't see why anyone wouldn't pick Harry."

Roy Hodgson has been great with me and brought me into the squad. He's got a good relationship with the boys. We're obviously looking to the next tournament and from there I'm sure we'll keep pushing on.

Looking ahead to Euro 2016, which England look likely to qualify for sooner rather than later, Delph said: "Obviously you've got one eye but personally I take each squad and each game as it comes. Hopefully I'll keep getting picked, doing reasonably well and then good things will happen.

"I'm new to it but the boys have been terrific with me from day one. A lot of the young players I've played with England age groups below this one and everyone's been welcoming. I've got people left and right of me and I can follow what they're doing.

England's Fabian Delph says his rise to England regular has been a rapid one

On the improvement in Villa's league form, which has included two wins in their last three games following Tim Sherwood's appointment, Delph said: "What Tim's done is give everybody a lift. Obviously when a new manager comes into a club everybody's on tip-toes and ready to go. He's been positive.

"He was a midfielder like Paul Lambert was. I learned from Paul Lambert and I'm learning from Tim Sherwood."
