We all start with a clean slate, says new arrival from Holland

Australian forward Brett Holman has been assured he has a future at Aston Villa under new manager Paul Lambert. Holman signed a pre-contract to join Villa in March when Alex McLeish was in charge but by the time the 28-year-old reported for pre-season training the former boss was long gone. It could have made for an uncomfortable start for the ex-AZ Alkmaar player but Holman insists talks with Lambert have gone well and he believes he will have a chance to show what he can do. He told the Daily Star: "I signed for one manager and I'm now playing for another, but it hasn't really affected me at all. "I've spoken to the new manager and he's told me to give it everything. He's reassured me. "Nobody has played for him, so we all start with a clean slate. I have got to show him what I can produce and make it hard for him. Hopefully I will play my way into the first team. "Paul said, 'You're here, give it everything'. "So, it was good to have a word with the new manager. He said I was part of his plans but that I have to show myself, otherwise he's not going to pick me." Lambert appears keen to assess his squad during next week's tour of America before making any further additions to the ranks.
