Petrov's condition was diagnosed following tests after the Bulgaria international developed a fever following last Saturday's defeat to Arsenal.
News of the former Celtic player's condition shocked the football world with messages of support flooding in for the 32-year-old.
Despite the devastating news, Petrov is determined to show his support for his team-mates and will be in attendance at Villa Park for the game with Chelsea.
The home fans are expected to pay a special tribute to their captain before the game and have planned a 19th-minute ovation during the match in recognition of Petrov and his shirt number 19.
Petrov is set to begin treatment on his condition on Monday at a London specialist hospital.
