Midfielder aiming to shake off knock to knee for Spurs trip

Martin O'Neill is not ruling Steve Sidwell out of Aston Villa's trip to Tottenham Hotspur next Monday. Sidwell has yet to appear in the Premier League for Villa since his summer move from Chelsea due to a series of niggling injuries. The midfielder had been hampered by a calf problem before taking a knock to the knee while playing for the reserves last week. He had been hoping to play at White Hart Lane next Monday and Villa boss O'Neill will monitor the former Reading ace over the coming days.

Galling

"We are monitoring him at the moment, but he might be a doubt for Monday which would be disappointing for us," said O'Neill. "It's unavoidable, these things can happen. But it's particularly galling as Steve has never picked up an injury before in his career. "He just wants to get his Villa career up and running and it's very disappointing. "I don't think it (the knee) is anything to overly concern us though. We will monitor it over the next few days."
