Laursen out for Villa

Aston Villa will be without defender Martin Laursen against Chelsea.

Aston Villa will be without defender Martin Laursen this weekend through injury and the Denmark international could even be on the sidelines for some time.

The former Milan stopper sustained a knee injury against Charlton Athletic and manager David O'Leary fears the worst for the club's summer arrival.

With Liam Ridgewell already out of action for Villa, the former Leeds boss does not want to lose any more defenders - with Laursen now set to see a specialist.

O'Leary's boys tackle high-flying Chelsea on Saturday, a fixture they won 3-2 last season, but will have to do without the services of Laursen.

"Laursen does not look right and it could be long termish but I don't know how long," said O'Leary to the club's official website.

"He's definitely not right for the game against Chelsea on Saturday. We are going to take him to a specialist on Monday and let him assess him.

"But with Liam Ridgewell out for another six weeks or so with his injury, we are down to the bare bones at the back and we really can't afford any more injuries in that department."
