Villa linked with Sorensen

ASTON VILLA are reported to be lining up a summer move for Sunderland goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen.

Reports in the Midlands suggest that Graham Taylor is keen to bring the giant Danish international to Villa Park for next season.

With Sunderland looking set for relegation, they would have to offload most of their top stars, and Sorensen would probably be sacrificed.

Black Cats boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that a number of top stars will have to be offloaded in the wake of relegation and they would be willing to listen to big money offers for Sorensen.

The 26-year-old is unlikely to be content playing in Division One feeling he needs to be in top-flight football to hold onto his international place.

Taylor could be the market for a new goalkeeper after a number of high profile slip-ups by current number one Peter Enckelman and reserve Stefan Postma failing to convince all Villa Park in his brief appearances so far.

Sorensen, who is rated as one of the best goalkeepers in The Premiership, has been linked with Villa and Arsenal in the past and there is sure to be a scramble for his signature should he decide to leave Wearside at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, fellow Sunderland goalkeeper Michael Ingham will remain at Division Three side York City for a further month on loan.

Ingham moved to Bootham Crescent on loan two months ago but York boss Terry Dolan has negotiated a third month with The Black Cats after Ingham has performed well for the promotion-chasing Minstermen.
