Ryan Nelsen has agreed to return to international football after being named as New Zealand's new captain.
The Blackburn Rovers defender has not played for his country since the 2004 Oceania Nations Cup/World Cup qualifying tournament.
But the recent retirement of Danny Hay has prompted Nelsen's return to the New Zealand fold as skipper.
He is due to feature in October's 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Vanuatu and is relishing the opportunity.
Nelsen said in The Sun: "I can't wait to get back and lead the guys out."
