Nelsen given a break

Blackburn skipper Ryan Nelsen is out for the rest of the month with a hamstring injury.

Blackburn's New Zealand international Ryan Nelsen is out for the rest of the month with a hamstring injury.

The defender missed the Premiership clash with West Ham on Sunday and will also miss his country's friendly matches in South America against Costa Rica and Venezuela later this month.

The Blackburn skipper has been plagued by hamstring problems this season and underwent surgery in September.

However, Rovers boss Mark Hughes says the problem is not connected with his previous injury and he should return to action at the end of March.

"He's got a little bit of scar tissue which will continue to free itself," Hughes told the club's official website.

"So when that happens he gets a bit of a reaction. The good news is that it isn't a re-occurrence of his injury over the summer.

"He wasn't available for us against West Ham and he won't be travelling to New Zealand as we have to rest him so he gets a clear break and we can welcome him back after the internationals."
