The Italian stopper came to Rovers with a reputation for trying to play too much football at the back instead of concentrating on defending.
The former Rangers man was a star performer in Rovers' crucial win over Leicester City on Saturday, and he says that he is glad he showed he could battle.
"It is good that I am showing I can roll up my sleeves and get stuck in like anyone else. It is something you have to do from time to time as a defender," said Amoruso.
"Yes, it is true I also like to play good football and make important passes but not all the time.
"I had just one bad season at Rangers. But after that all I heard was that Amoruso gets caught trying to play with the ball too much.
"What people did not appreciate is that it was a very strange year for me in many ways. I broke up with my girlfriend, my mother was ill and I had many problems with the manager, Dick Advocaat.
"I was never very clear in my mind with all these problems going on around me and, OK, maybe my football was not so good for a while.
"But the manager did not do much to help me. He took the captaincy from me and there were times when I was put on the substitutes' bench because it was easy to blame me when things were going wrong."
Graeme Souness was particularly impressed with the Italians display, and Amoruso is now keen to show he has what it takes to help Rovers stay up.
"I have always wanted to show I am not someone who runs away from the problems in my life, though. What I have achieved has come to me because I am a good fighter.
"A big man will always stand up to be counted and in this situation that is even more important.
"Graeme Souness showed a lot of faith in me and it was frustrating that my injuries have meant I have not been able to do much to repay him.
"Now I am fit again I have the chance to do that. I am eager to take it."
Souness says that his side would not be in as much trouble as they are had Amoruso been fully fit all season.
"In its simplest terms, he is a proper defender," said the Ewood park boss. "Someone who reads the game well, times his tackles superbly and uses the ball cleverly.
"He Marshalls the men around him and I'm convinced that, if he had been available for the greater part of the season, we would never have found ourselves in the position we're in now.
"He typified our desire not to be outbattled by opponents you know will run until they drop.
"In footballing terms, this was possibly our worst display of the season. But we showed the character and the work rate to get the result we needed."
