Gallagher primed for action

Paul Gallagher is the latest youngster being primed to have an impact at Premiership level after impressing Blackburn Rovers manager Graeme Souness.

The 19-year-old striker has still to make his first league start for the club but his outstanding form in the reserves and encouraging display as a substitute in Monday's important win over Everton, has left Souness in no doubt that his young charge is ready for the limelight.

"Young Gally did very well when he came on on Monday night and he looks ready for me," enthused the Rovers boss.

"You tend to find that the people who are going to be proper players can only do a season in reserve football because, if you are going to grasp it, then you are going to do it then.

"The players who make it tend to show immediately because, if you are going to succeed at this level, then you need to start showing it by the time you are 18 or 19," he told The Lancashire Evening Telegraph.

"And, in Gally's case, he's been showing it for a while now."
