Harry Kane insists there is a defiant mood in Tottenham's squad after defeat to Chelsea in the Capital One Cup final.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 in a close affair at Wembley on Sunday, ending their only real chance for silverware in Mauricio Pochettino's first season at the club.

Kane, 21, admits the team are "gutted" but he believes a young group of players will learn from the experience and respond during the final weeks of the season.

“On behalf of my team-mates, the staff and the club itself, I'm gutted,” said the Tottenham striker.

"But everyone’s proud of themselves. A lot of us were playing in our first final and it’s an experience we will learn from.

“This is our first season, we've got a very young team and new coaching staff. I thought we gave a good account of ourselves but it just didn't go for us. You could say both their goals were scrappy and it went their way instead.

“We've got to dust ourselves off and move on as quickly as possible. The aim now is to finish in the top-four and, with a lot of games to go, we've got to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.”

Kane's 24 goals in all competitions this season have been vital to Spurs' development and the youngster is set to be named in Roy Hodgson's England squad next month.

And he said: “I’m enjoying the season. The attention shows I’m doing well and any footballer wants to have the backing from the fans and everyone around him.

“When you see Chelsea lifting that trophy it just makes the fire in your belly burn to be lifting it yourself, and that’s what we've got to do with the squad we have. We hope to be back at Wembley in the seasons to come.”
