Tottenham striker Harry Kane hopes his goalscoring form can lead to a senior England call-up

Tottenham's players believe they can still achieve a top-four finish this season, Harry Kane has told Sky Sports.

Spurs fans have endured a frustrating start to the campaign, seeing their side lose four of their seven Premier League home games, but Kane says a Champions League qualifying berth is still an achievable goal for Mauricio Pochettino's men.

While Tottenham currently sit in seventh spot, they are only two points adrift of fourth-placed Manchester United and Kane says improving Spurs have plenty of time to surge up the table.

We know if we can get a bit of momentum and go on a good run, [top four] is there for the taking.

"I don’t see why not," said Kane, when asked if Spurs could finish in the top four.

"We're only two points off the top four at the minute and we’ve had some results we’re not so happy with.

"We know if we can get a bit of momentum and go on a good run it’s there for the taking, so that’s what we’re looking to do.

"We’re getting used to [Pochettino’s pressing tactics]. We’re getting fitter, we’re getting better at doing it. As the games progress, we’ll get better and being effective with it. Hopefully we can establish our style on the games we play."

Test

Spurs’ progression will be tested by table-topping Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Blues remain undefeated this season and haven’t lost at home to Spurs since 1990 but Kane says Tottenham are fired up to end their London rivals’ run and says the north Londoners can cause Jose Mourinho’s men problems.

"Every time we play Chelsea we want to beat them," he said.

"We know away from home it hasn’t been so great against them but we’re looking forward to the game and we’re going into the game knowing the way we want to play. Hopefully we can perform well and get a result.

"They’ve been doing very well and they’ve been playing some great football. But it’s a long season and there are a lot of games to come up.

"Hopefully we can get a win over them and they may falter a little bit.

"Our away form has been good this season and hopefully we can take that into the Chelsea game. There’s no reason why we can’t beat them. Obviously they’re a top side but we’ve got to be on top of our game."

Confidence

With 10 goals in 17 appearances in all competitions this season, Kane will be a particular threat to Chelsea’s mean defence.

The Blues have conceded just 11 goals this season but Kane says he’ll go into the match full of belief - and thanked boss Pochettino for the influence he’s had on him this season.

"He’s added confidence to my game," said Kane.

"He’s worked on little things in training with movement and he’s played me in a couple of different positions and I’ve been doing well and getting on the score sheet."
