Erik Lamela is thankful to Tottenham after earning a recall to the Argentina squad to face Germany on Wedndesay.

The 22-year-old playmaker moved to White Hart Lane from Roma for £30m in 2013 but endured a largely frustrating debut season in the Premier League after being hampered by injuries.

However, his form has improved so far this season, earning him a recall to the Argentina squad which will take on Germany in Dusseldorf in a repeat of this summer's World Cup final.

He is delighted at his recall and has praised the backing he received from Spurs when the going was tough last season.

I feel Spurs have taken care of me, and thanks to that I have started the season in the best way.

In comments reported by Central Fox, Lamela is quoted as saying: “Being called to the national team is the best thing that could happen to a football player. I will enjoy it and will try to give my best from me. I am very happy to be in the team again.

"To be honest, I was surprised when I found out I was being recalled, most of all because the list of players had already been done. At the last minute I was told that I had to travel to Dusseldorf and I am very happy about that.

"I had a long injury, so I am thankful to my current club as they have always backed me for anything that I needed.

“In fact, I feel that they have taken care of me, and thanks to that I have started the season in the best way.

“If I have a good performance in my team then the doors of the national team may keep on being opened for me, just like it has happened in this occasion."
