Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

Spurs finally get their man after lengthy pursuit

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a permanent basis. Sky Sports sources had reported a deal was close and, although the full details of a fee have not been announced, Spurs and the player have both confirmed a transfer has now been agreed on what is understood to be a four-year contract. Tottenham were desperate to re-sign Adebayor after his successful loan spell at the club last season, when he scored 18 goals in all competitions, but it has taken several months for the necessary details to be settled. Andre Villas-Boas, who only took over at White Hart Lane this summer after succeeding Harry Redknapp, has now managed to secure another attacking option. Tottenham went into Saturday's defeat at Newcastle United with just Jermain Defoe as their only experienced and recognised striker but they could now call on Adebayor for this weekend's home meeting with West Bromwich Albion.

Great things

Former Arsenal striker and one-time African Player of the Year Adebayor said on Twitter: "I'm back!!!! Tottenham here I come!! I'm hungry for goals...Get ready." He also told Tottenham's official website: "I am pleased to be signing for Spurs on a permanent basis after finally agreeing my departure with Manchester City. "It may have taken longer than expected but I am delighted to be back at Tottenham Hotspur. "I really enjoyed my time here last season and I am hoping we can achieve great things together again." The move brings to an end the 28-year-old's disappointing time at City, where, having joined from Arsenal in a £25million summer 2009 move, he made just 45 appearances and was also loaned to Real Madrid. Tottenham said in a statement: "We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City."
