Playmaker to remain in London as Spurs wait on bids

Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Luka Modric will not be joining the Tottenham squad on their US tour, with Spurs waiting on big-money bids for the playmaker's services. Modric has expressed a desire to move on this summer, with Real Madrid believed to his preferred destination. The Spanish giants are known to hold an interest in the Croatia international, as are ambitious French outfit Paris St Germain. Neither have met Spurs' valuation, though, and the player remains at White Hart Lane. Modric recently attempted to push things along by refusing to join Spurs on their pre-season tour of the United States, a stance he has since apologised for.

Levels

He is now back in training, but remains in London and Spurs will not be drafting him into their plans until his future has been resolved one way or another. "He is in London. We decided for him to stay in London," said Villas-Boas. Asked if he expected Modric to join the rest of the Tottenham team in the States, the Portuguese tactician added: "I don't think so, it is something I have to judge. "The game against Liverpool is going to be played in tremendous heat. We are going to have three days training for that game and then eventually we have the last game and we don't have a lot of time to train. "With the levels that the others are at at the moment, I don't think it would be sensible to bring Luka back. A decision can still be taken."
Value
Villas-Boas claims to have spoken with Modric since his refusal to make the USA trip and admits that Spurs are bracing themselves for further movement in the transfer market. He said: "He has spoken to me and the chairman. His apology comes and it is well welcomed. "The player is now training. Hopefully he will make the right decision in the future. We just have to wait on the bidding clubs to offer the right value for a player of big dimension. "He is an extremely good player and any team or any coach would like to count on a player of that dimension. He is still our player at the moment and at the moment I am counting on him."
