Tottenham defender Michael Dawson says Peter Crouch has apologised to his team-mates in the wake of his dismissal against Real Madrid.
The England international was sent off just 15 minutes into Spurs' 4-0 defeat at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night in their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg.
Harry Redknapp's side were already trailing 1-0 thanks to Emmanuel Adebayor's early header in Madrid when Crouch picked up a second needless booking for a lunging tackle on Marcelo.
Spurs had to play the remaining 75 minutes a man light and Real made Crouch pay for his indiscretion by pressing home their numerical advantage and putting the tie virtually beyond doubt.
Crouch is yet to give his side of events, although Dawson insists he was gutted by his dismissal and has expressed his disappointment at his actions.
Gutted
"He (Crouch) was gutted," explained Dawson.
"He apologised to the lads but we went out there to give our all and it didn't go to plan.
"I didn't see the bookings so I don't know if they were harsh.
"To have it happen so early on when you are playing a team like Real Madrid was disappointing."
