Alnwick to start against Peterborough on Saturday

Carlisle United manager John Ward felt it was important to bring in goalkeeper Ben Alnwick on loan from Tottenham Hotspur. Alnwick has agreed a one-month loan stint at Brunton Park and will start Saturday's League One game against Peterborough United. He will replace Ben Williams in goal and Ward believes he has made the right move in signing the former Sunderland keeper. "It's a position that we feel needs to be freshened up, so we've spoken to Tottenham and agreed to get him up here for a month," Ward told the club's official website.

Right move

"Ben Williams and Chris Howarth are no different to the other players in our team in that we sometimes have to make decisions about them. "We think that Ben needs to step out and gather his thoughts again, and regroup, as much for himself as for any other reason at the moment. "It's probably a bit harsh on Chris, but we've looked at the situation and we feel this is the right move." Alnwick has yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs since joining the club in January 2007, but spent spells on loan at Luton Town and Leicester City last season.
