Keeper keen on White Hart Lane switch

Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Derby goalkeeper Stephen Bywater. Spurs are in the market for goalkeeping cover after allowing Paul Robinson to leave for Blackburn and with Radek Cerny not winning a new deal at White Hart Lane. Juande Ramos is keen to bring in an understudy to summer signing Heurelho Gomes and it appears Bywater could be on his way to North London. Derby boss Paul Jewell has confirmed Tottenham have made a bid for Bywater and that the former West Ham keeper is keen on making the move. Bywater is well down the pecking order at Pride Park and spent the second half of last season on loan at Ipswich.

Appeals

"Tottenham came in with a bid for Stephen and the player is very keen to go, which is fully understandable," Jewell told the Derby Evening Telegraph. "I would like to have kept him but it is a move which appeals to him and we wish him well."
