Jermaine Jenas believes Tottenham players are right to have high ambitions for the club as they press for European football again next year.
Spurs must finish in the top seven to stand a chance of qualifying for Europe and if they win their last four games they will achieve that target.
And Jenas feels confident his side can qualify again if they continue with the drive and ambition that got them to the quarter-finals of the Uefa Cup this season.
"It's my second season at Tottenham now and I've seen big strides," said Jenas.
"We were fifth last year but that was with no cup runs," he added.
"We've got to the quarter-finals and semi-finals of cups this year and a lot of the players look at that and say it's not good enough, which is a good feeling because we feel we should be going further in the competitions.
"It's good that the players have that ambition for the club."
Spurs' achievements so far this season include reaching the quarter-final stage of the Uefa Cup and FA Cup as well as the last four of the Carling Cup.
And Jenas is determined his side can qualify once again for European honours and that anything less would be simply not good enough.
"Quarter-finals and semi-finals, I don't remember it," he said. "It's nothing, it's forgotten. So if we weren't to finish in the Uefa places then I'd feel the season was a failure."
Defender Michael Dawson also believes Spurs can go all the way if they put their minds to it but that their exit from the Uefa Cup this time was a massive blow.
"We set targets and standards last year, our standards were that this year we were in a Uefa Cup spot," he said on Sky Sport News.
"We came so close only to not achieve anything and win something. That's what all the lads want to do. At the end of your career you want to look back at what you've won.
"Everyone at Spurs wants to win trophies."
