Routledge out for two months

Wayne Routledge faces a longer spell on the sidelines than first expected.

Tottenham boss Martin Jol has revealed Wayne Routledge faces a longer spell on the sidelines than first expected.

Routledge missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Middlesbrough with a foot stress fracture.

The former Crystal Palace ace was expected to be only out of action for a fortnight, but further tests on the injury have shown the injury is worse than originally suspected.

Routledge will now be sidelined for up to two months and Jol admitted it was a major blow to lose the flying winger.

"Our league position is not that important at this stage of the season," he said. "Why should you go mad after only two games?

"Getting a settled team is very important to us but now Wayne is going to be out for months, not weeks as we first thought.

"He has a stress fracture of the foot and the doctor has since spoken with us to confirm that it was worse than we first thought. He is out for up to two months now."
