Sevilla complete Kanoute deal

Sevilla claim to have wrapped up the signing of Spurs striker Fredi Kanoute.

Sevilla claim to have wrapped up the signing of Spurs striker Fredi Kanoute despite continuing reports of late interest from Newcastle.

The Mali international has put pen to paper on a four-year deal and claims the Spaniards' desire to sign him was a key factor in the deal.

"I decided to come here because I knew that the president (Jose Maria del Nido), the director of sport (Ramon Rodriguez) and the manager (Juande Ramos) all wanted me and that was very important for me," Kanoute told Sevilla's official website.

"I like the Spanish league a lot and I believe it is a good opportunity for me.

"I have not trained for three days because I have been with the Mali squad in France, but with a couple of days training I'll be ready to play and I hope to adapt as quickly as possible."

Although the transfer now appears signed, sealed and delivered, sources in England still claim Newcastle have not given up hope of persuading the striker to turn his back on Sevilla.
