Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick is confident he can make the World Cup squad and add to his existing England caps.
Carrick has featured in just three more England games since his 2001 debut against Mexico but completed both internationals in the recent end of season tour of the United States.
The 24-year-old will this year be paired with dynamic Dutch international Edgar Davids and, if Spurs have a successful season, insists he can play a part in coach Sven Goran Eriksson's plans for Germany next summer.
The former West Ham player told Sky Sports News: "I have got a chance.
"Probably 35 players will tell you the same thing in England at the moment that they have got a chance. But it is such a long year that anything can happen all season.
"I don't think the World Cup would have been on my mind so much if I hadn't gone on tour to America. But being around the squad gave me a good taste of things and obviously playing games was a factor in that.
"I was quite satisfied looking back at it - to get two 90 minutes and two wins under my belt was good experience.
"I didn't really expect to play both games and that was a big bonus for me. Winning games gives you a bit more confidence knowing you can do the job at that level and get a bit more action.
"I have come back to pre-season and want to improve and make myself a better player. If I can get in the squad for the friendly [against Denmark] I'll be delighted."
