Agent claims Spurs want Fatih

TOTTENHAM continue to be credited with an interest in Turkish internationals, with Fatih Akyel reportedly joining Ergun Penbe on Glenn Hoddle's wanted list.

After rumours of a meeting in Istanbul between Penbe's representatives and an agent acting on behalf of Spurs, it is now claimed that his fellow World Cup star Fatih is also attracting attention from the North Londoners.

"The English club is ready to pay Fenerbahce ‚é¼4.5 million (£2.88m) for Fatih," insisted agent Ahmet Bulut.

Director of football David Pleat ran the rule over several possible targets in his role as a television co-commentator during the tournament in Japan and Korea, and will have been impressed by the Turks, who finished in third place.

"Turkey's technique showed through in all but one of the games," admitted Pleat recently.

Fatih, 24, has already had an unhappy spell in one of the major leagues with Mallorca, but could be persuaded to move to London if any initial interest is followed up.

The versatile defender, who was born on Boxing Day, made his international bow back in 1997.

Meanwhile, Spurs could be close to sealing a deal for Mouscron youngster Jonathan Blondel.
