Agent fires Ergun Spurs talk

TOTTENHAM are one of four clubs keen to sign Galatasaray's World Cup star Ergun Penbe, according to the player's agent.

The Turkish wing back made a favourable impression with his performances for the bronze medalists in Japan and Korea, and club coach Fatih Terim has already vowed to try and keep him in Istanbul.

Yet the foreign vultures are circling, with the 30-year-old's representative Ali Guven claiming Spurs, Newcastle, Rangers and Barcelona are all keen to snap his client up.

Indeed, Guven states that Spurs have already opened talks for the hard-working former Genclerbirligi man, who can also perform in midfield.

"Rangers, Barcelona, Newcastle and Tottenham want to buy Ergun," said Guven.

"But we will talk to Galatasaray first.

"If we cannot reach agreement with Galatasaray, we will think about Tottenham or Barcelona."

A meeting between an agent acting on behalf of Spurs and Ergun's representative is said to have taken place in Istanbul on Monday.
