Pompey boss expects West Brom full-back to extend loan deal

Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton is confident the club will be able to extend the loan of West Bromwich Albion full-back Joe Mattock. The 21-year-old joined Pompey last month, along with Baggies team-mate George Thorne, and is due to stay at Fratton Park until 2nd January. Thorne was recalled by West Brom earlier in the week, but Mattock has remained on the South Coast and could stay with Pompey for the rest of the season. Mattock has made four Championship appearances for the club to date and Appleton appears keen to hang on to the former Leicester City youngster. "As long as there are no ridiculous hiccups, I'd like to think we'd be able to keep Joe beyond January 2," said Appleton in The News. "If it's for the rest of the season he'd be delighted, I would and I'm sure the players would be. "I'd be very surprised, if we did keep him, that West Brom wouldn't put in a 24-hour recall. "That puts us at risk as well, so I have to weigh all those options up."
