North End boss sets sights on former Norwich man

Preston manager Darren Ferguson is confident he can complete the signing of midfielder Darel Russell. Former Norwich City man Russell, who left Carrow Road at the start of the month after rejecting a new contract, is currently in talks with North End over personal terms after telling Ferguson he wants to join the Deepdale club. The 29-year-old is available on a Bosman transfer, and Ferguson is hopeful of finalising the deal.

Negotiations

"I have spoken to Darel, there's no secret about that, he was at our game against Blackburn last week," Ferguson told the Evening Post. "We are negotiating with his agent at the moment, hopefully we can get a deal done. "Of course we're mindful of the balance sheet, Darel is on a free but we have to negotiate his wages. "These things always take time so we'll wait and see. "The boy is 29, has good experience and is a very good player. He's very fit, has good energy, and was outstanding for Norwich last season. "Darel has one or two things up his sleeve but after we had a very good positive chat, he wants to come. "At the moment I'm hopeful, more than over-confident, that he will come."
