Midfielder hopes to face Chelsea in the FA Cup

Southend United have completed the signing of Jean-Francois Christophe from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. Christophe impressed during a three-month loan spell at Roots Hall earlier this season and made 17 appearances for the League One club. He was keen to secure a permanent move to the Shrimpers and has now signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Steve Tilson's men. With the midfielder also having overcome a hamstring injury, he is hoping to be involved in Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie at Chelsea. "I have been working hard while I haven't been able to play and have been doing plenty of cardio work with the physio John Stannard," Christophe told the club's official website. "I've been running with and without the ball and if the manager needs me to start then I'm ready to do that. "I'm pleased to be able to play again for Southend and it's a very big game to be coming back for."
